According to Greta

Reminded me a lot of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Only Greta's drama leans more towards the morbid and the girl has serious issues. Her issues revolve around her father's death which happened when she was five. He committed suicide and little Greta walked in to see him dying.
She's seventeen now and her mother is on her third husband. Still some-what a child herself, Greta's mother can't handle her dark cynicism and obsession with suicides. She sends her to psychologists and then off to her grandparents' house in New Jersey for the summer.

Unused to their granddaughters presence in their lives the grandparents each deal with Greta as they can. Her grandmother 'Grams' is mostly strict and sometimes dryly humourous with her. Her grandfather 'Gramps' is amused and mostly tolerant acting as a peacemaker between the two females in his home.
At first disgusted by the display of old age all around her, she grows a little fond of her grandparents and develops a crush on a young cook at a Sushi restaurant named Julie- which on a particular occasion makes her Grams believe that Greta's been hanging out with a girl.
Julie is an ex-con, having spent some time in juvenile jail, who now has no wish to ever go back. Thanks to Greta however he almost gets thrown in again.
On a boat ride Greta deliberately tries to jump into the water and drown, but gets saved by Julie. Her Grams has a heart attack after which Julie tells her to, well, grow up.
Her mother arrives with the current husband to haul Greta to a boot camp, but her grandparents intercede.
Her grandfather tells his daughter that it wasn't Greta who needed to be taken away but her who should stay and try to become part of the family again.
Surprisingly, husband no. 3 seconds the plan and drives away saying that he'll see her in a few weeks.
The family...bond.
The end.
